Among the 24 contestants that presented during this year’s Festival di Sanremo, 23-year-old Irama was an undeniable standout.

After competing in 2016 as part of Sanremo’s Nuove Proposte category, the Tuscan-born singer, songwriter and rapper, who has become known for donning his signature feather earrings, went on to be crowned the winner of the Italian talent show Amici in 2018. Following his win, he had the most listened-to song of the summer on Spotify in Italy with the infectious hit “Nera.”

This year, Irama finally made it to the Ariston stage as one of the 24 campioni competing in the 69th edition of the legendary Sanremo Music Festival with the moving song “La ragazza con il cuore di latta,” a track inspired in part by the story of a girl he once met. Featuring the vocal power of a soaring choir singing behind him, the song has become an anthem of hope, exploring tragedy and rebirth within the context of family and denouncing sexual abuse and domestic violence.

As with many of the artists who compete in Sanremo, Irama has just released a new album, a repack of his 2018 album Giovani. Titled Giovani per sempre, the collection contains his 2019 Sanremo entry along with new versions of tracks featured on the original album. “Non mollo mai” became a collaboration with rapper Vegas Jones and Neapolitan rock band The Kolors while “Icaro” became a duet with rapper Mr. Rain. Also included on the album is a gorgeous acoustic version of the previously released single “Bella e rovinata.”

Irama will soon embark on a tour throughout Italy to celebrate the release of the album. Watch the official music video for “La ragazza con il cuore di latta” below and stream Giovani per sempre now on Spotify.
