WATCH: Dom La Nena Teams Up with Julieta Venegas on "Quién Podrá Saberlo"

Dom La Nena has blessed the new year with incredible new music, and we can’t stop listening. Nor do we want to.

The Brazilian-born singer and musician recently released the gorgeous music video for her poignant single “Quién Podrá Saberlo,” a collaboration with Mexican-American singer and songwriter Julieta Venegas. La Nena has long admired Venegas for her unique fusion of pop and traditional Mexican music, and it’s obvious that the pairing between the two talented artists was truly a match made in musical heaven. “We wanted to make a song together, and with this idea, I composed ‘Quién Podrá Saberlo’—already thinking about her voice and unique timbre and about mixing our musical universes,” La Nena explains. “To have the opportunity to sing together with Julieta, recorded in Buenos Aires, it is something almost unreal and a great thrill for me!”

Driven by ethereal vocals and magical melodies, “Quién Podrá Saberlo” dives deep into a subject that everyone can relate to, something that not one of us can escape: our past. Addressing questions such as “What do we do with everything we experience?”, “What do we do with the frustrations, disappointments, with our fears?”, “How are relationships changed or reshaped?”, La Nena prompts fans to turn back the clock and relive those moments, which, whether positive or negative, have come to define their time on earth. At the same time, she also reminds listeners that it’s okay to not be in control or have all the answers all the time, a message that couldn’t be more relevant considering the overwhelming challenges the world is facing today. “Life is made up by a series of events and accidents, many times things do not go as planned and we have to constantly adapt to situations...” she says. “It is a subject that raises many questions but does not have a concrete answer!”

Filmed between Buenos Aires and Paris under the direction of Jeremih (REM, Tinariwen, Jane Birkin, Piers Faccini), the music video offers fans a surreal and timeless universe that blends the past and present with imaginary memories while showcasing the complexities of love and the emotions that we experience as we pass through the different stages of life.

“Quién Podrá Saberlo” is featured on Dom La Nena’s brand new album Tempo, which, as the title suggests, centers around the transcendent theme of time and the concepts of birth, anticipation, aging, and death. Released on February 26, Tiempo is her third full-length project, following her critically acclaimed 2013 album Ela and her 2015 indie-folk album Soyo. Stream Tempo here.
