Hawaii Collective 82Fifty Brings the Heat with Highly Anticipated Self-Titled Album
/Jesse Campania, Zach Manzano, Ryan Dela Cruz, and Max Paguio are Hawaiian rock/reggae collective 82Fifty.
Based in Pearl City, Oahu, for over 10 years, the band has continuously delivered compelling musical heat to their native island, offering an original and immensely electrifying style that blends metal, punk, ska, and reggae. Together the band has garnered multiple nominations to the Nā Hōkū Hanohano Awards, considered to be Hawaii’s equivalent of the Grammy Awards, as well as a win at the Hawaii Music Awards in 2008 for Rock Album of the Year.
Never failing to wrap listeners in an explosive wave of sound, in April, 82Fifty released their highly anticipated third full-length album, a self-titled collection produced by the band’s lead guitarist Zach Manzano (Audio Ramen) that boasts an exhilarating and diverse mix of sonic elements while exploring a variety of poignant themes.
Opening 82Fifty is a moving, high-energy tribute anthem titled “Good Die Young,” which was written in dedication to music’s greatest minds who tragically died much too young, and much earlier than the world was ready for. Bob Marley, Kurt Cobain, John Lennon, and Bradley Nowell were the artists that the band had in mind while penning the track, as they have all influenced their work profoundly.
Also included on the album is the reggae-flecked “Fire,” a true stand out thanks to its flaming electric guitar and impactful message. A tremendous anthem, the song encourages listeners to discover their inner power and harness the motivation to keep pushing forward in the face of adversity.
An unexpected—although perhaps not surprising—treat found toward the end of this invigorating collection is a rousing cover of “Roxanne,” which was originally recorded by The Police. The band lends a contemporary spin to the long-standing classic, adding an extra heavy dose of dynamic, potent energy and reviving it for a brand new audience.
From the feel-good vibes of party jam “Dancin’ and Romancin’” to the exhausted angst of “Lost in Waves” and every song in between, 82Fifty is a not-to-be-missed collection that promises to accompany listeners through the good times and the bad, and will remind them that they are not alone.
