Ovi Stakes His Claim as a Leader in the Regional Urban Movement with the Release of New Album Buen Viaje

Regional urban music is taking off, and one of its most sensational representatives is Ovi.

On Friday, the rising star dropped his new album Buen Viaje, which was composed entirely by Ovi himself and released via the trailblazing label Rancho Humilde in collaboration with Warner Music Latina and Atlantic Records.

“Buen Viaje” is a shining example of the magic that lies in blending two of the most popular genres in Latin music—trap and regional Mexican—into one innovative style. Regional urban, specifically the “trap corrido” is the best of both worlds, offering the explosive, hard hitting rhythms of the rap-based genre along with the romantic nostalgia and the emotional narratives characteristic of Mexican folk ballads.

As one of the most promising new acts in the regional urban movement, perhaps, then, it’s no surprise that Ovi already boasts nearly 1 million monthly listeners on Spotify, the largest music streaming service in the world. With Buen Viaje—a collection overflowing with magnetic, kaleidoscopic beats and rhythms, and relatable stories of romance, breakups, and heartbreak—the Cuban-born singer-songwriter proves once again why his trap corridos are among the best around, cementing his position as one of the most exciting and compelling new artists not only in the genre, but in the greater Latin music landscape as well.

Featured alongside Ovi on this 12-track project are a variety of talented artists including fellow Rancho Humilde acts Junior H and Natanael Cano, the latter of whom he previously collaborated with on the Billboard-charting single “Pacas Verdes.” Jessi Uribe, Aleman, Big Soto, JOP, TyanG, and Re ne were also invited to participate, and they all bring their own flavors to the collection, helping to make it just as prismatic and hypnotizing as the cover art. However, among the standout tracks on Buen Viaje is the melodic single “Volver” featuring Lenny Tavárez, Brytiago, and Natanael Cano. Buen Viaje is the second album Ovi has released this year. The first, titled AMEN, was released in April, also via Rancho Humilde.
