Get to Know Me: Aly Ryan (WHM Interview Series)

Indie pop artist Aly Ryan is a viral sensation.

Born in Germany and now based in Los Angeles, the 20-year-old singer and songwriter quickly won the attention of listeners around the world with her debut EP The Misfits, which has accumulated more than 20 million streams on Soundcloud alone. Not to mention her single "No Parachute" hit No. 1 in France, Germany, and Russia and ranked in the top 10 in many other countries while also being featured on tastemaker playlists on Spotify and Apple Music.

With fans ready and waiting to hear what she has in store for the future, Aly Ryan is on track to become the next biggest thing in the global music scene. As part of Musical Notes Global's Women's History Month celebration, get to know her a little better in her questionnaire-style interview below.

Here's the scoop on my debut EP The Misfits: The running theme in "The Misfits" is accepting the fact that you're an outsider and being ok with it. Finding out that all those little quirky & weird things are what makes you special and that there are people out there just like you. But when I check my dms and emails people all over the world usually have a different interpretation of what my art is. So I think that's cool.

I find my greatest inspiration in my insecurities.

A female artist who has influenced my work/sound is Marilyn Monroe because she's my soulmate.

My favorite song or album by a female artist is Tapestry-Carole King.

When I'm not singing, you can find me looking at food porn.

This is what Women's History Month means to me: Women need to stand together more than ever, support each other and appreciate how far we've come and I know the responsibility that I have to contribute to the movement.

Here's my advice to aspiring female singers and songwriters: Try not to take advice from everybody (including me).

As a woman in the music industry, I feel it's important to be authentic & support one another.
