Get to Know Me: Amanda Jayne

Acoustically driven and emotionally connected, Amanda Jayne commands attention with her light, airy melodies and striking lyrics.

The Long Island-based singer and songwriter just released the music video for her latest single "Bruising pt. II," a revival of the track "Bruising" from her 2016 debut album Strike a Match. She talked all about the song, the video, and more in her questionnaire-style interview with Musical Notes Global. Check it out below:

Here's the scoop on my new single "Bruising pt. II": There was a song off my last record (Strike a Match) called "Bruising." I really liked how the acoustic song came out, but I felt that it had more potential as a pop song. I wrote more lyrics and added more instruments to the track to create "Bruising pt. II." This song is about a relationship where one partner doesn't value the other enough to make a commitment. The narrator is "bruising" from the uncertainty and the mind games.

The best part of filming the music video was exploring the house because of all the history packed into it. We shot this video at the Pollock-Krasner House in East Hampton, NY, which is where artists Jackson Pollock and Lee Krasner once lived. I hope viewers watch this video carefully. The meaning isn't at the surface level, so pay close attention! I haven't spoken to anyone who picked up on the concept I was going for, so watch "Bruising pt. II" and let me know what you think it means!

As a singer-songwriter, I find my greatest inspiration in life experiences. More often than not, real people and conversations make their way into my music. As a songwriter, my goal is to represent life through art, and what better way to accomplish that than to let life inspire me?

Here's my advice to aspiring singers and songwriters: don't hold back! Whatever you want to say, say it. Don't worry about popularity or getting someone's approval. The best music comes from the artists that do exactly what they want to do, no matter the response.

I love performing live because I get to see people's reactions. There's no better feeling than when the crowd is into it and jamming out with me. I love it when music becomes a communal experience.

A stage I've always dreamed of performing on is Jones Beach because it's the coolest venue on Long Island. It's an open air amphitheater and the stage sits right on the water. You can listen to music and watch a beautiful sunset at the same time.

In 2018, I hope to write new songs, become a better musician, and collaborate with other artists and writers. I have a bunch of originals that I'm ready to get into the studio with, so you'll be able to hear some of them in 2018.

To me, music means expression. It's a way to take your perspective and present it through an artistic medium. Music also means universality, as it's a language that everyone can understand.
