Based in San Francisco, singer, songwriter, and Xicana reggaeton artist La Doña has quickly become one of our new favorites in the Latin music scene.

Born Cecilia Peña-Govea, La Doña began her music career at the tender age of 7, when she played with her family conjunto La Familia Peña-Govea as a vocalist, percussionist, and trumpeter. As a solo artist, she blends Latin folk music traditions with contemporary electronic dance genres, like reggaeton, while featuring live instruments and exploring themes including place-based identity, sexuality, radicalism and resistance, and perreo.

Today this bilingual beauty is premiering her new single “Memorias Caramelas” exclusively on Musical Notes Global, and just in time for Women’s History Month!

Produced by Tano Brock, “Memorias Caramelas” features delectable elements of Colombian cumbia and Cuban son with a contemporary reggaeton base, while Grammy-nominated tresero Juan “Coto” de la Cruz Antomarchi joins La Doña on tres and vocals.

The song follows her previous singles “Nada Me Pertenece” and “Algo Nuevo” and delves into the pain of lost love. “‘Memorias Caramelas’ is the soundtrack to lingering heartbreak left by a tropically drenched sensuous love,” she says.

La Doña is an artist to keep an eye on and we can’t wait to see what else she has in store. Listen to “Memorias Caramelas” below!
